This morning we went into the township of San Gimignano to have a look around through all the narrow streets, what a beautiful little town. The streets all went up and down hill, all cobblestones and little shops tucked away in all the narrow streets. A very picturesque town with great views of the surrounding countryside, also heaps of souvenir shops and local craft shops and lots of things I haven’t seen before. You name it and I recon there would have been a shop there. We were given plenty of time here and most people made a purchase of some description.
It was Mother’s Day in Australia so Sue & I bought a plant with heaps of white flowers on it from some people raising money for cancer and then proceeded to cut the flowers off and present them to all the ladies on our trip for Mother’s Day.
We enjoyed a wine tasting and luncheon date at Castello Vicchiomaggio an old castle and winery which has been producing high quality wine for many years. We got to have a taste of three of red wines, I thought they were ok however I am no wine expert! But when they told us the price I thought my opinion was correct it wasn’t that good. Anyway we had a very nice three course lunch and a few more glasses of wine on the house and by the time we left it was tasting pretty good.
The drive through to Florence was very scenic but I think a lot of people were napping, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to have wine with lunch in the middle of the day and then try to stay awake with the sun coming through the window.
The weather since we have arrived in Italy has been mid to late twenties every day with beautiful sunny days, we couldn’t have asked for better. We arrived in Florence and straight away we were split into two groups for a tour of a museum called the academy of fine arts to see the David Statue by Michelangelo from the David & Goliath story.
At the completion of our tour we were taken to be checked into our hotel, unbeknownst to us Edwardo our driver had already taken our cases to the hotel and they were already in our rooms waiting for us. Thanks for doing that mate and thanks to Rebecca our Tour Director for organising it. Cheers.
