Arriving this morning in Cologne and docking close to the city meant we were able to head ashore after breakfast for our usual walking tour before enjoying some time just wandering. Cologne has the tallest Cathedral that I have ever seen and when you stand next to it you look like a little ant! Cologne is a big city and is famous for 4711 Eau de Cologne and one of the biggest bridges that crosses the river that has about a thousand trains go across it daily. As usual the guides have done a great job with their knowledge of history and showing us the places of interest. At different time unexploded bombs from World War II have been found and the river has had to be closed while they make it safe for everyone. Well it’s time go get back on board as we are sailing this afternoon headed to our last stop, Amsterdam. And yes you guessed it already, it’s lunchtime when we get back on board. The shop on board the river ship is open today with souvenirs just to make sure they have extracted the last lot of money from you! Today was a great day to be on the sun deck as it is nice and sunny and both sides of the river are visible, there are lots of barges travelling along with huge loads of cargo and many container ships and ports along the River Rhine. Our last Port Talk today with Luke which is about what is going to happen in Amsterdam and all the info about how all 140 passengers leave this beautiful ship in a couple of days. We are all disembarking the river ship at different times and then headed in all different directions so there is a bit for the staff to organise. Tonight we enjoyed the Captains Farewell Dinner where all the staff that work on the ship were introduced to the passengers which was great, we were able to meet a lot of people that we don’t see as they work away behind the scenes but without them this ship would not operate, everyone has their own job to do. After dinner tonight it was off to bed and to start packing!
