A bit of a sleep in today, Mary had a surprise for us. Today was meant to be a free day but she had organised some special things for us. Our tour around Oklahoma City started with a trip back down to Bricktown to check out the land rush monument which is dedicated to the people that took part in the land rush. When the canon fired it was time to go to stake your claim on horse back, wagon or any other way of getting there. The monument has been made 1.5 scale and consists of horses, their riders, wagons, sulkies and dogs. It has been 25 years in the making and when it’s completed it will be the longest of its kind in the world, even bigger than the one in Texas.

We were taken on a cruise on an electric boat up and down the canal, viewing the buildings and gardens. The canal is only four feet deep, only about twice the width of the boat and it was man made. We had a very knowledgeable young lady as our tour guide and driver who gave us commentary during our trip. They drain the canal regularly for cleaning and the number one item they retrieve are ladies high heel shoes. They get about twelve thousand dollars in loose change and other than rubbish. Other items have included baby strollers, a wheel chair and even a Police bicycle. The cruise was very enjoyable, thanks Mary.

At the completion of the cruise we spent about four hours at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum, they keep their museums very interesting, holding your attention and you find yourself wanting more.

We then had a very informative talk from a ranger at the Oklahoma City National Memorial, which is dedicated to the victims of the terrorism attack in April 1995, which claimed 168 lives and what they have done to commemorate this sad time in American history is incredible.

There was a severe weather forecast today, it looked very threatening but as we have many times on this tour, we dodged it again! To this point the weather on this trip could not have been better.

We were picked up from the Cowboy Museum and taken back to our hotel and tonight we have free time and get your own dinner, people went off in all directions for dinner. Some just had dinner at our hotel and had a few drinks in the bar and had some fun with the locals.
