Rail & Sail Blog Day 1 – 20th June 2016

Today we headed off on our first Rail & Sail! Although it wasn’t a perfect start with it raining, wet and cold, but we are heading to a warmer place. Our 43 passengers have been waiting for this day to arrive for nearly 12 months. After leaving the depot at 7.15 am and picking up passengers along the way, we arrived at Lady Nelson by 7.30 am where majority of the passengers were waiting and it wasn’t long until we were all aboard and ready to go 15 minutes early. We were on our way!

Heading to Adelaide, we had a few pickups along the way, Penola, Naracoorte and Padthaway. Now with everyone on board, we headed to our morning tea/comfort stop in Keith. This was the first time everyone had the opportunity to catch up off the coach altogether as a group, enjoying a cuppa, cake & biscuits.

On the road again and we were on our way to Tailem Bend for lunch at Jagers. After a beautiful lunch everyone was keen to get the last leg of the trip into Adelaide done. We had a great run into the big smoke and arrived at the Stamford Grand for our overnight stay around 2.30 pm, a great place to start out trip.

On arrival some chose to wander around Jetty Road or the beach at Glenelg before settling into their hotel room or having a catch up coffee or a drink before dinner. Dinner tonight was at the Jetty Road Hotel which was booked a while back and was definitely worth waiting for. Our dinner was amazing, way too much food but that’s a good complaint to have! Everyone really enjoyed their meal and was finished off with a great dessert!

After dinner everyone headed back to the Grand to pack their cases for tomorrow the great experience of the Indian Pacific Train for the next couple of days. Stay tuned!
