Port Arthur is our touring destination today, on the way we are travelling through farming country and learning about the convict history. Morning tea at Pirates Bay in the lovely sunshine while enjoying the views and hearing more stories.
On arrival in Port Arthur we were able to find out about different convicts by viewing the interpretive centre. We each had a card which matched up with a convict. Some of their crimes seemed trivial, but they were transported out to Australia and some of them ended up doing very well for themselves later. We had a cruise around the harbour and then able to see the ruins of buildings of the settlement. Then a guided walking tour of the grounds was on offer. For those who found walking difficult the golf buggies drove them around the grounds. After this it was meal time again and of course the souvenir shop to take home a reminder of this special place.
The Tasmanian Devil Zoo was our next stop where we were able to see these special little animals as they are on the endangered list. They looked quite cute as we were able to see them up very close but knowing we had the fence between us.
On our way back to Hobart we had a drive through Doo Town, Devils Kitchen, Tasman Arch and then up to Mount Nelson to have a different overview of Hobart from the opposite side of the harbour than what we saw yesterday. Then back to hotel to freshen up for another lovely dinner.
